Provides medical assistant duties for the Wound Healing Center, in an outpatient and inpatient services setting. The incumbent is responsible for medical assistant duties including but not limited to direct patient care, telephone triage, and direct wound care. The medical assistant performs all duties and tasks in accordance with standards established for the job. The incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee and/or Mercy proprietary information, and must handle the information in accordance with hospital policy, HIPAA requirements and the highest level of ethical standards.
The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position, and conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Mercy Hospital.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate of an approved medical assisting program, certification preferred OR current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Maine. Healthcare Provider/Professional Rescuer certification (or attained within 30 days of hire) preferred. Graduate of an approved medical assisting program, certification preferred OR current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Maine. Experience in wound care strongly desired. Knowledge of medical terminology required, certificate preferred. The incumbent must be computer literate. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills as the incumbent interacts with patients, families, physicians and staff and directly affects the patient’s experience. Must be able to work closely with Diabetes, Foot and Ankle, Cardiovascular Centers and other departments as necessary and appropriate. Must exhibit strong communication skills as the incumbent must understand specific instructions and must have the ability to explain technical information to patients in terms they can easily understand. Experience with patient telephone triage in a physician office setting strongly preferred. Must have the judgement and initiative to work independently and to identify and resolve office procedure problems with minimal supervision. Must be highly accountable as quality, accuracy and timeliness of work impacts patient care. Incumbent has access to confidential patient information.
