Physician is needed in Augusta, Maine.

Must-haves; B/C or B/E specializing in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Family Practice by the appropriate accrediting agencies (EM preferred), unrestricted state medical license, qualified to diagnose, treat, and manage patients according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.

Mus! t pass pre-employment physical examination.

Designated and/or Random Drug Testing required.

DUTIES:
Services to be performed include but are not limited to:
Perform assessments/examinations on initial encounters with unscheduled, emergency and new patients.

Coordinate patient treatment plan (involve specialists as

appropriate).

Order appropriate routine diagnostic tests and X-ray studies necessary to complete the evaluation.

Provide physician oversight to Emergency

Department nurses and several Emergency Department mid-levels.

Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.

Participate on committees of the

Medical/Dental staff.

Attend meetings of the Medical/Dental staff as well as Medical Service staff meetings.

Reco! mmend patients for hospital admissions.

Respond

to co! de beeper.

The physician must have an unrestricted medical license and must be ACLS certified.

Additional Responsibilities:
The Emergency Department Physicians will support the safety, occupational health, and fire protection program by the application of approved standards,

regulations, practices and work methods.

In the performance of official duties, the Emergency Department Physicians have regular access to printed and electronic files containing sensitive date which

must be protected under the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHS policy. The

Physicians will be responsible for (1) protecting that data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion and (2) following applicable

regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc. as set out in a! computer access agreement which the

employee signs.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Candidates must meet all the requirements identified in the VA Qualification Standard for Licensed Physician, VM-0602 as set forth in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G2 dated April 15, 2002.

1. Citizenship: Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G2, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g.).

2. Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

2. a. Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.

2. b. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.

2. c. Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.

3. Licensure and Registration: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.

Impaired Licensure: A physician who has, or has ever had, any li! cense(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions of VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G2, chapter 3, section B, paragraph 14.

4. English Language Proficiency: Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
