Under supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse and according to established policies and procedures, performs various service duties to provide patient care, supervision, companionship, and support to the patient. Helps to maintain patient room in a clean and orderly condition. Specific duties may vary by area of assignment.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Must be certified as a Nursing Assistant by the State of Maine and be on the State of Maine Registry, having completed a six-week or equivalent course.
Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healt! hcare Provider and maintain certification via biannual renewal of BLS.
Knowledge of standards, policies, procedures and organizational structure of the unit, the Department of Nursing, and Maine Medical Center.
Ability to read, write, and speak English in order to follow oral or written instructions and complete standard forms.
Requires the interpersonal skills necessary to exchange information and maintain continuous relationships with patients, visitors, and other MMC employees.
Requires excellent communication skills.
Requires the ability to almost constantly sit, stand, walk, and reach.
Requires the ability to maintain sensitive information in a confidential manner.
Participates in continuing education relative to role as defined.
