PHYSICIAN - ADDICTION MEDICINE

Description: Mercy Hospital - Maine is at present looking to employ PHYSICIAN - ADDICTION MEDICINE right now, this position will be placed in Maine. The Recovery Center physician is responsible for the evaluation and management of patients who seek care for chemical dependency and addiction. The physician must continual! ly focus on patient safety and ensure timely and correct disposition of all patients. He/she provides clinical supervision for addiction medicine physician extenders and participates in the teaching of the residents and the medical students who rotate in the department. The physician must maintain a strong working rapport with addiction medicine staff, nurses, and patients, as well as with medical staff, consultants and other hospital personnel. He/she must attend division meetings, have a current knowledge of addiction medicine policies and procedures, and participate in quality improvement initiatives within the Recovery Center. Often the initial professional to interact with those seeking addiction medicine services at Mercy, this physician must conduct himself or herself according to the Mission and Values of Mercy Hospital. This physician will be required to be on call seven days per month including one weekend, and to participate in Recovery Center Family Day. Involve! ment in Recovery Center research initiatives is required. The ! incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee and/or Mercy proprietary information, and must handle the information in accordance with hospital policy, HIPAA requirements and the highest level of ethical standards.

The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position, and conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Mercy Hospital.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
At least 3 years of postgraduate training in Addiction Medicine with board certification/eligibility in Addiction Medicine. M.D. or D. O degree with at least 3 years of postgraduate training in Addiction Medicine. Broad and in-depth technical knowledge and skills related to the practice of addiction medicine. Excellent teaching, supervisory and administrative skills. In-depth familiarity with evidence-based chemical dependency care and risk management strategies. Ability to speak! clearly and comfortably to and use tact, discretion and sensitivity in dealing with patients, including excellent interviewing and counseling skills. Ability to explain medical problems and treatments in accurate and understandable lay language. Ability to deal effectively with other hospital personnel as well as with a wide range of care providers and personnel inside and outside of Mercy Hospital.
