These positions are located in the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Production Department, Code 960, Shop 56, Kittery, ME.

This job announcement will be used to establish and maintain a standing register that will be used to fill vacancies on an as needed basis at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, ME.

Position is a Helper to Intermediate Training Program, with known promotion potential to WG-4204-10.
You will work as an Entry level employee and will receive two years of training ! and experience and will then be promoted to the Intermediate l! evel. As an Intermediate level employee you will receive two years of training and experience and will then be temporarily promoted to the Journey level for one year. After completion of additional work experience and training, your temporary promotion may be converted to permanent without further advertising. Advancement to the Intermediate and Journey levels (and continued employment) requires satisfactory completion of classroom training and work experience. KEY REQUIREMENTS

Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
Overtime/Weekend/Holiday/Shift work may be required.
Pre-employment physical is required. DUTIES:
- Assists Pipefitters by performing less skilled duties of the trade, keeping journeyman supplied with tools and work materia! ls, and engaging in joint operations with journeyman as instructed.
- Performs simpler elements of the trade alone, including use of journeyman tools and machines on limited tasks .
- Assists mechanic in the removal and the repair of all piping systems and equipment by loosening nuts, bolts, etc., disassembling components, cleaning parts, and reassembling as directed. Consults with supervisor on needs and technical problems to avoid delays.
- Assists mechanic in flushing and testing of systems by running hose, making connections to air, oil, and water and cleaning agents, and taking readings of dials, gauges, etc. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Pipefitter Helper without more than normal supervision such as utilizing tools, equipment, and materials to repair piping systems; performing simple operations such as assisting journeyman in the removing and repairing piping systems and equipment; and cleans tools and equipment and keeps area clean and orderly.

REQUIREMENTS:
Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.
Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

Must work in confined and closed spaces, and is exposed to temperature extremes, smoke, dirt, acids, caustics, oils, grease, solvents, dust, noise, fumes, toxic materials, dampness, toxic fumes, adhesives, detergents and possible poor illumination and v! entilation, etc.
May be exposed to nuclear radiation and possible contamination requiring the wearing of nylon suits, caps, shoe coverings, gloves, film badges, dosimeters, and respirators.
You may be required to lift up to 40 lbs. Work requires frequent pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, crouching, squatting, crawling, sitting, lying, stooping, climbing, prolonged working, and standing, working for prolonged periods with arms over head, working on staging and in confined quarters, cramped positions, etc. Must be able to distinguish colors. Must be able to hear leakage sounds while testing.
