Under the supervision of the Office Manager, the Coder II accumulates and analyzes data for all patients and assigns standard codes. The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with standards established for the j! ob. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position. In addition, the incumbent conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Mercy Hospital.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
A High School Diploma or GED is required. A nationally recognized credential in health information technology or coding (RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or other) is highly desired. As Associate or Baccalaureate degree is preferred. Two years ICD-9-CM, HCPCS, and CPT coding experience in a health care setting is preferred. Must able to demonstrate thorough knowledge in medical terminology. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pharmacology is required. Must have good interpersonal skills as the incumbent interacts with physicians, nurses and other departments in obtaining data. Must have a high degree of analytical and problem solving skills together with judgement and initiative to interpret the pertinence a! nd correctness of information to patient diagnosis, assess val! idity of documentation and obtain clear and corrected information, as necessary, from physicians. Must be highly accountable for timeliness and accuracy of performance. Incumbent has access to highly confidential hospital and patient information. Incumbent’s work directly impacts hospital revenues.
