Duties:
Your salary and grade will be determined by the Prof! essional Standards Board (PSB). The PSB is a peer review process. The PSB will review your individual qualifications, education, professional training/internship(s) and professional experience to determine the most appropriate salary and grade based on your individual accomplishments. The grade range for this position, to be determined by the PSB, is GS-3 to GS-5.

The incumbent performs a wide variety of administrative duties necessary to support the daily operations of the Primary Care Service Line at the VA Maine Health Care System's Lewiston Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC), including:
Screening phone calls, determining which ones can be handled personally, directing calls to the triage nurse or other appropriate staff Responding to requests for appointment cancellations or changes Acting as a patient advocate, resolving patient needs to the best of his/her ability Responding to information requests within applicable guidelines (i.e. HIPPA) Schedulin! g patient appointments and verifying provider requests Updatin! g patient demographic and insurance data through a computerized records system All other duties as necessary
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 4:30PM

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
The basic requirements for employment as a Medical Support Assistant are prescribed by statute in VA Handbook 5005/53, Part II, Appendix G45. To qualify for appointment as a Medical Support Assistant in Veterans Health Administration, applicants must have the following education and/or experience:
EDUCATION: Completion of one full-time academic year of education above the high school level. (If using education to qualify, unofficial transcripts are required)
OR

EXPERIENCE: Six months experience of clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform this position.
OR

COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Combinations of post-secondary education and experience are qualifying for this position.
