Under the direction of the Manager Surgical Services, the Surgical Services Support Specialist is responsible for providing administrative support services to the Surgi! cal Services team: two campus perioperative units (OR/PACU/PAT/CRNA/SP/ACU), including general support to three managers and one director. The incumbent will also be expected to support the timely operation of all billing/charge processes with key clinicians in the perioperative arena. The support specialist will be involved with any special projects and audits as delegated regarding quality, patient satisfaction, billing/ charging in the OR. In addition, the incumbent provides surgical scheduling duties as needed and assists with block time utilization meetings distributing block changes to surgeons and practice managers. The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee and/or Mercy proprietary information, and must handle & protect the information in accordance with hospital & system policies, HIPAA requirements and the highest level of ethical s! tandards. The incumbent is responsible for reporting all secur! ity events, potential events, or other security risks to the organization. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position, and conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Mercy Hospital.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
A High School Diploma or GED is required; an Associates or Bachelorâs degree is preferred. A minimum of two (2) years experience in healthcare environment and knowledge of coding and billing procedures preferred. Operating room and scheduling experience strongly preferred. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology; anatomy & physiology and pharmacology. Ability to take initiative and be innovative is desired. Must be able to operate independently to complete all tasks with minimal supervision. Must have good verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills as the incumbent must interact effectively w! ith physicians, nurses, technologists, all levels of other staff and across departments. Must have high degree of analytical and problem solving skills, together with judgment & initiative, assess validity of documentation and obtain clear and correct information as necessary from physicians. Must be highly accountable for accuracy and timeliness of work. Expert at Microsoft office suite, experience with databases including making changes and producing custom reports. Must be committed to confidentiality, as employee will have access to patient information.
