Summary

The Clinical Educator for Surgical Services works under the direction of the Clinical Director for Surgical Services and the Operating Room Nurse Manager to coordinate and execute departmental orientation for all roles within Surgical Services. The Clinical Educator will work in the units with staff assessing practice and provide/coordinate clinical educational opportunities including new hire and on-going competencies. The Clinical Educator will work closely with the Manager, Nursing Practice & Clinical Education to ensure consistency throughout the organization.

The incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee and/or Mercy proprietary information, and must handle & protect the information in accordance with hospital & system policies, HIPAA requirements and the highest level of ethical standards. The incumbent is responsible for reporting all security events, potential events, or other security risks to the organization. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position, and conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Mercy Hospital.

Required
Maine RN License requi red or must be eligible to obtain Maine RN License

BSN is required, BLS & ACLS is required.
CNOR required within 2 years of employment

A minimum of 3 years of perioperative clinical experience, of which at least two (2) are in the Operating Room. Experience in program development, computer literacy. Demonstrates strong clinical skills. Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication skills, teamwork, and organizational skills. Effective collaborative, problem solving skills. Ability to manage customer complaints and staff issues effectively; develop and manage nursing staff competency requirements; and assist in the development and maintenance of departmental directives that relate to nursing process and procedures. Ability to complete a comprehensive age specific nursing care to the population of patients within the assigned unit/area.
